HAGANE was formed on June 23, 2018 in Tokyo by guitarist Sakura, who had just finished high school. The original lineup featured vocalist Chiemi, guitarists Sakura and Mayto, bassist Sayaka and drummer Kanako Takahashi. Chiemi left in 2019 and was replaced by Uyu.
The band describes its style as harmonic metal: melodic power metal with high-tone vocals, twin-guitar harmonies and a signature blue aesthetic. HAGANE name Helloween, Rhapsody of Fire, DragonForce, X Japan and Dream Theater as their key influences. Most lyrics are in Japanese.
Following the mini album EpisodeØ (2020), the debut full album Code;9021 appeared in 2022 and was followed by a sold-out tour ending at Spotify O-WEST in Shibuya. At the ONE MAN LIVE ZERO show on May 26, 2023, three members announced their departure: Uyu, Mayto and Kanako.
Guitarist Sakura and bassist Sayaka kept the band going and recruited vocalist Nagi via audition and drummer JUNNA in 2024. As a four-piece, HAGANE released the EP Life Goes On! (2024) and the second full album Top of the Tower in April 2025 on Euclid Agency / Crimson.
