Female metal quartet from Tokyo, known for the "yurufuwa" concept

About
NEMOPHILA formed in Tokyo in August 2019. Vocalist mayu had just left the band Lipstick and needed musicians for a one-off live session. She brought in classmate Haraguchi-san on bass, drummer Tamu Murata, and through a mutual friend the Mary’s Blood guitarist SAKI, who also recruited Disqualia guitarist Hazuki. The chemistry worked, so they made it permanent.
The band’s signature is the „yurufuwa“ concept (Japanese for fluffy/soft) paired with metalcore heaviness. mayu switches between clean vocals and screams, and Tamu Murata’s tribal drum patterns have become a signature element. The early YouTube cover videos brought international attention, which led British label JPU Records to release the compilation Oiran: Extended Edition in 2021.
NEMOPHILA’s live debut was at Metal Weekend 2019 at Zepp DiverCity, as the opening act for Loudness and HammerFall. The 5th anniversary one-man show at Nippon Budokan on February 17, 2024 was the highlight to date.
On March 31, 2024 founding guitarist SAKI left the band. The band continues as a four-piece and now writes and produces all material themselves. To date they have released four studio albums (Revive, Seize the Fate, EVOLVE, Apple of My Eye), the covers EP The Initial Impulse, and the EP 五臓 -GOZO- (2026).
