About
Unlucky Morpheus, often shortened to Ankimo (あんきも), was formed in 2008 by vocalist Fuki and guitarist Shiren. The band describes its style as Technical Melodic Speed Metal, blending power metal, symphonic elements, classical music and twin-guitar work with violin.
The project began in the Japanese doujin scene with arrangement albums of music from the Touhou Project series. The first mini album Hypothetical Box was released in 2008 at the M3 doujin event on a homemade CD-R. Over the following years the lineup expanded with violinist Jill, bassist Hiroyuki Ogawa, drummer FUMIYA and second guitarist Jinya.
With Affected (2014) and Vampir (2015) the band started writing original material in parallel to the Touhou arrangements. From Black Pentagram (2016) onward the focus shifted fully to original songs. Change of Generation (2018) became their first album to chart on Oricon, peaking at number 26.
Unlucky Morpheus released the original albums Unfinished (2020) and evolution (2022) before signing to FABTONE Inc. for the concept album Gate of Heaven (2025). Its companion piece Gate of Hell follows on June 3, 2026, with the nationwide HELL or HEAVEN one-man tour running from June to August 2026. Vocalist Fuki is also active in Light Bringer, Doll$Boxx and as a solo artist.
